Introduction

Cooking is useful, because eating food restores lost life points. As someone new to the skill, you may find that you may often burn food that you try to cook. The more your level increases, the less food you will burn. As your Cooking skill increases, you will also have access to a wider range of foods that you are able to cook. You can cook food on an open fire or on a range.

Fire and Ranges

Fire can be made pretty easily by using a Tinderbox with just about any kind of wood logs.
The only foods that can be used on a fire are things such as fish and meats (basically anything that doesn't include several ingredients). For foods that have several ingredients, ranges are the source for cooking the foods.

There are many ranges/ovens across RuneScape and can be located by following this icon. In order to cook foods, just use an uncooked food on either a range or fire. You will also find that cooking on ranges (especially the one in Lumbridge Castle) will reduce the amount of times you burn food. Also while cooking you may be given the option of cooking several amounts of a particular object. Among those options is the option of 'Cook X.' Upon clicking that you will be given the ability to enter a certain amount of that particular item you want to make.

Skill Boosters

Cooking Gauntlets

Cooking Gauntlets are acquired at the completion of the Family Crest Quest. They minimize the amount of burnt fish you pull (Lobster, Swordfish, Monkfish, and Sharks) and allow you to stop burning these fish at a much lower level resulting in faster experience.

Note: If you lose your Cooking gauntlets, talk to Dimintheis for a pair of Steel gauntlets. Dimintheis is located in a house South-east of the Varrock east bank. Then talk to Caleb in Catherby to enchant the gauntlets into Cooking gauntlets for a price of 25k.

Miscellaneous

Cooking Sinew

Crossbows require a stronger bow string that what flax makes, so you should use sinew.

To prepare Sinew:
  1. Get some Meat.
  2. Locate a range and use the Meat on it.
  3. Select the option to dry it out into Sinew.

Request Assistance

The Request Assistance tool can be used with Cooking. To use another player's Cooking level, right-click them and 'Request assist'. Upon their acceptance, you will have the ability to Cook based on their level and they will get the experience. That is of course if their level is higher. If your level matches theirs or is higher, you'll get the experience. Requesting assistance doesn't work with quest-related items. This is a great way to cook that Manta Ray you've always wanted to cook, since you've never had the required level to do so!

Achievement Cape

The cooking skill cape can be acquired by talking to the Head Chef in Cooks' guild after getting 99 cooking. The cape, whether it is trimmed or not, costs 99k. As soon as you have the Cooking cape, you will also unlock the cooking skill emote. As you can see from the picture below, there is a stat difference between wearing the regular cape and trimmed cape. Wearing the Cooking hood does not increase any stats. If you ever lose your cape, you can regain it by paying the Head Chef 99k again. Just like all skill capes, this one is Members only.
