The Grand Tree, which shelters the majority of RuneScape's small gnome population, is dying.
Is it human sabotage or an inside job?
Help King Shareen to find the true cause and save the tree gnomes from an uncertain fate.

Blah, blah, blah blah blah... blah?

Start by speaking to King Narnode Shareen on the ground floor of the Grand Tree. He will want to speak with you privately under the tree. He will explain the tree is dying. He suggests talking to Hazelmere, east of Yanille.

Head to his island, and climb up the stairs in the little building. You will have him write down what he's saying on a scroll. Translated, it says:

A man came to me with the King's seal
I gave the man Daconia rocks
and Daconia rocks will kill the tree!

Return to the Gnome Stronghold and talk to the king again. Choose the following options.
  • I think so!
  • None of the above.
  • None of the above.
  • A man came to me with the King's seal.
  • I gave the man Daconia rocks.
  • And Daconia rocks will kill the tree!

He will ask you to find Glough and tell him.

Humans can't be trusted!

Climb up the ladder and talk to Glough in his house. Talk to him, and he will tell you to go back to the king. He will tell you that Glough already captured a human sneaking around with Darconia rocks.
The king will give you permission to talk to him. Climb all the way to the top level and talk to Charlie in the cage. He will explain that Glough paid him to get the rocks, and suggests you search his house.
Return to Glough's house. Open the cupboard nearby and get his journal. Read through the journal then try talking to him. He will summon guards and have you arrested. Climb down the ladder and you will be taken to prison.
Narnode will come up and apologize. He says to escape via the glider. Talk to Captain Errdo nearby. Have him take you to Karamja. He will instead.. uhm.. crash...

Searching for Proof

Head directly east, then look for the gate in the fence. Try to go through, but you will be stopped. Tell him that Glough sent you. Tell him the password is Ka. Lu. Min.
Head to the southern dock and look for the foreman. You can choose to kill him or talk to him. If you talk to him, he will take you to the office. Use the following options:
  • Sadly, his wife is no longer with us!
  • He loves worm holes.
  • Anita.

He will give you the order for the lumber.
Return to the Gnome Stronghold and talk to Narnode. He won't believe your claims. Go talk to Charlie again. He suggests getting Glough's chest keys from Anita. With the key, return to Glough's house. Use the key on the chest there to get a scroll.
Return to Narnode. He still won't believe you, saying that anyone could have made them. He also had the guards search Glough's house, and all they found was some sticks.

Root of the Problem

The king will give you the sticks. Return to Glough's house and climb up the tree on the east side. There will be wooden pillars on the platform. Using the sticks, spell out TUZO (meaning Open in Ancient Gnomish).
You can now go down the trapdoor if you're ready to take on the Black Demon. Glough will be down there. He will introduce you to his little friend.

Kill the demon, then Glough will run away. Continue down the cave, and look for Narnode near the ladder. You will explain what just happened, but he still won't believe you. He will send a guard to check it out. He will return and say he found Glough hiding there.
The tree is still dying, so search all of the roots in the area until you find the Daconia rock. Talk to the King to complete the quest!
