Preparing for the Exam
Start by talking to one of the Examiners at the Exam Center south of the Dig Site. She will give you a letter to take to the curator of the Varrock Museum to get stamped.
Go find the Curator, and he will give you a sealed letter. Return to the Examiner and try to take the test. Choose whatever answer you want, because they're all wrong. You will need to get the answers from the students. Speak to them around the dig site. They will help you, but first you have to find their items.
Between the exam center and the dig site are two paths. In between them is a giant blue urn. Search the eastern bush to find the teddy bear. Next, at the southwest side of the dig site, get a panning tray from the large tent.
Talk to the panning guide along the river, and he will allow you to pan if you get him a cup of tea. Give it to him, and start panning. Eventually you will find a special cup.
Last but not least, Pickpocket workmen until you obtain an animal skull and a specimen brush. Now find all three students around the area.
Talk to each of them twice, and they will give you the answers. Now go back to the exam center and take your exam!
For the first exam, use the following answers.
- The study of the earth, its contents and history.
- All that have passed the appropriate Earth Sciences exam.
- Gloves and boots are to be worn at all times; proper tools must be used.
Congratulations! The first exam is out of the way!
Now go talk to the students again to find the answers to the second exam. Use the following answers on the exam.
- Samples taken in rough form, kept only in sealed containers.
- Finds must be carefully handled, and gloves worn.
- Always handle with care; strike the rock cleanly on its cleaving point.
Congratulations! The second exam is out of the way!
Now go back to all of the students. The female student will want an opal, so give her one. Head back for the third and final exam.
- Samples cleaned, and carried only in specimen jars.
- Brush carefully and slowly using short strokes.
- Handle bones very carefully and keep them away from other samples.
Congratulations! You now have all three certificates!
A Notable Find
Take your certificates back to the Museum Curator in Varrock. He will reward you with either a drink or food.
Speak to the Archeological Expert, then go into the sectioned, southwestern part of the building. Look for the cabinets on the north and south sides. Open and search them for a rock pick and specimen jar respectively.
Now head to the level 3 dig area in the Dig Site, and use the trowel on the soil until you find an ancient symbol. Return to the Expert and show it to him. Markings on the symbol will say:
He will write you a letter, allowing you to use the winch. Use the letter on one of the workmen that you can talk to. Attach your rope to the western winch and operate it. Grab one of the arcenia roots and search the bricks leading into a southern chamber.
Head back up the winch and go to the eastern winch now. Use your other rope on it and climb down. Talk to Doug down there, and ask about moving large piles of bricks. He will give you a small key.
Head to the south side of the camp. In the tent with a panning tray is a chest. Use the key on it, and you will get some chemical powder. Just outside the tent on the west side, look for a closed barrel. Use your trowel on the barrel, then use your vial on the barrel.
Now to go the Archeological Expert again, and right-click to have him identify the liquid. Now use the powder on him and he will identify it. Search the nearby bookcases to find a book on chemicals. Mix the nitroglycerin and the ammonium nitrate.
Now grind your charcoal and use the dust on the mixture. Finally, add the root. With the chemical compound, return to the western winch and use it on the bricks. Then, with your tinderbox, light it. It will now explode.
Go in and take the stone tablet. Read it and then return to the expert. Use it on him and he will reward you.
