Learning about Ernest
After speaking to Veronica about her husband not coming back, you will proudly accept the quest.
Enter Draynor Manor and climb up the stairs, then climb up the nearby ladder to reach the top of the Manor. Talk to Professor Oddenstein; you will be informed of Ernest's mishap. He's a chicken! Not a cowardly one either!
To turn him back to a human Professor Oddenstein needs the stolen parts to his machine. He needs to find a pressure gauge, a rubber tube, and an oil can.
On the second floor you'll find some fish food in the room behind the staircase. Pick it up. Head over to the kitchen on the main floor. Pick up the poison on the floor, and head out the back way. Before you go, pick up the spade if you don't already have one.
Head outside and locate the compost area just the the west of the Manor. Use your spade on the compost and retrieve the key. Once this is completed, head south to the fountain. Now use your poison on the fish food and use it on the fountain. Congratulations, you just owned some piranhas! Now you can safely get a pressure gauge from the foutain.
Some hard instructions
Meanwhile, back inside the manor. You want to use a key in the room with a skeleton. Grab the rubber tube and run, no need to fight.
Now for the hard part, the oil can.
Inside the Manor at the room at the furthest west, search the candle sconce on the west wall for a secret door to open up, head down the trapdoor to the basement. Here you follow these instructions.

Grab the can quick INDIE! The oil can is in this room, take it and leave the basement. Head up to Professor Oddenstein and give him the parts. You will see Ernest turn into a human, after talking to him you will have finished the quest.
